Director’s Update: Aug. 11-16, 2025

As the semester moves into its normal routine and we are all starting to feel more comfortable/settled, I wanted to go over a few house-keeping items that will help the program run smoothly this year. Some of these are specific to students while others apply to parents.

  1. The band room is open for lunch to only students who are enrolled in a band, orchestra, or guitar class. We accept liability and responsibility of supervision for students when we open our classroom up during our lunch break. However, accepting responsibility for students who are not enrolled in the program is not something Mr. Koenig and I are willing to do. Please also remind your student that if they choose to eat lunch in the band room, they are also responsible for helping keep it clean during that time.
  2. Slack is the platform we use for Director/Staff communication to students. We have noticed an increase in students using Slack for the wrong reasons. This platform is not a group chat for students to talk with their friends or start generic conversations; it is for official communication only. If this continues to be a problem, we will explore other communication methods without open-ended posting abilities.
  3. As a parent/guardian, the best way to reach either myself or Mr. Koenig with questions is via email. Before and during rehearsals/classes are not ideal times to come to the band room to ask questions or for needed information. We try to follow a structured schedule prior to and during rehearsals so we are able to provide the best possible instruction for your student(s). Showing up, unannounced, and expecting us to take time away from our responsibilities to the students only leads to a disservice to the kids we teach. Thank you all for respecting this boundary.
