Director’s Update: Aug. 11-17, 2024
The time has come for marching band season to start kicking off! This week we have both our first game and our first Saturday camp. Please encourage your child to hydrate, rest when they can, and push through the hard work that is to come!
Monday 0: Start setting drill
- Goal: First 2 pages
Monday (6-8:30 pm): Set the drill for the rest of pre-show and scene one (16 pages)
- Students will dismiss around 8:30 pm so Meet Me in the Stands can happen.
Tuesday (0): Review & retain drill from Monday night
Wednesday (0): Music rehearsal
- review show music
- stand tunes
Thursday (0): Drill Review
Thursday (4-6 pm): Sectionals/Full Band
- Music: Show & Stands review
Friday: COPPER/NAVY SCRIMMAGE!
- Call time: 4:30 pm in band room
- Kick-off: 6:00 pm
- Dress code: Likely show shirts and jeans, will update if need to change.
Saturday: Saturday Camp #1
- Call time: 8:15 am
- Start time: 8:30 am
- Lunch: 11:30-12:15 (Bring your own)
- Dismiss: 2:00 pm
- Goals: Put music to the drill for pre-show/scene 1 & solidify music for scene 2/read scene 3 music.
Sunday: SLEEP!
Reminders:
- class/activity fees for marching band students are due before 3:45 pm on this Friday. Students that still have an outstanding balance after Friday will not be allowed to perform at Copper/Navy.
- Attendance is crucial. We are in the first big push of the season: Getting the show on the field. The more your child misses rehearsal, the more difficult it will be to catch up and the more it affects the entire ensemble. Please try to schedule medical appointments and other appointments for days that there is not band after school.
- Eligibility starts Monday. Anyone failing a class or below a 2.0 GPA will not be permitted to perform or travel with the band.
