Director’s Update: Band Camp 2024 Edition

Happy July, Band Families!

I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer; it is hard to believe that it is already time to start the next school year! That being said, let's talk about band camp!

We are officially one week out from the start to our 2024 season and it starts with the most important week of the season: band camp. Here is another general outline of camp and reminders/tips to help our newer families get through the week successfully.

Lunch: Lunch is the responsibility of students Monday-Thursday. The band boosters will provide lunch on Friday. Upperclassmen are allowed to leave campus for lunch, but must check out and in with a student leader and director. Returning late from lunch will result in revoked off-campus privileges.

Dress Code: All students must adhere to the CHS dress code while at band camp. Additionally, students must be dressed appropriately for the weather and activities of the week. This includes:

  • No jeans, sweat pants, or winter clothing
  • No open-toed shoes or crocs
  • No sweaters or jackets worn while outside
  • loose-fitting clothes
  • Tennis shoes or other athletic shoes with good arch support
  • Recommended: hat to keep sun off face and neck
  • Recommended: Sunglasses

Materials To Bring:

  • Sunscreen
  • Refillable water bottle
    • plastic, single-use bottles highly discouraged
  • Music from May camp
  • black binder for music
  • Pencil
  • Instrument & instrument accessories
  • Small snack (recommended)

High School Registration Conflicts:

CHS holds their registration event the same week as band camp. Students are excused from band camp during their registration time, but should plan to attend camp before their appointment time and return after. Please check out with a student leader and/or director before leaving and when you return.

The same policy applies to Andrada and Empire students.

Medical & Booster Forms: Med forms should be completed before Monday morning of camp. Students will not be allowed to participate without a med form on file.

All other booster forms should be submitted by the end of the week. Please reach out to a booster for questions regarding any booster form questions.

Wednesday Night Parent Meeting:

On Wednesday, July 10 at 5:30 pm, the band boosters will be holding their first meeting of the new year. Please plan to attend. Your participation in our booster organization is vital to the success of the marching band and the whole program. We will discuss volunteer opportunities and plans for the season at this first meeting. Attending is not committing to volunteering.

FFF Show:

Please join us in the Student Union Friday, July 12 at 6:00 pm for our annual Friday Friends & Family Show! This is a great opportunity to see what your child has been learning and what the rest of our season may look like!

I am very excited to get this season started with you all! Please feel free to reach out with any questions regarding marching band or upcoming events: baileyr@vailschooldistrict.org

See you at camp!
