Director’s Update: Oct. 28-Nov. 2, 2024
Congratulations to Copper Thunder on the great progress this past week! The band came in 2nd at Ironwood Ridge, won the Visual Caption Award, and saw a massive 8.5 point jump since their previous show! And now... U of A Band Day!
Monday
- 0 hour rehearsal
- 6-9 PM rehearsal
- PARENTS: We would like to invite you all to join us in the stadium stands at 8:30 for this Monday night's rehearsal. We're going to take some time to talk about how parents can influence our show from the stands by clapping and cheering at key moments in the show. So if you plan on traveling to watch U of A Band Day and/or Championships, please come learn how you can help boost our General Effect score!

Reminder from the Director:
As a reminder for families that are new to marching band competitions, we only dismiss students to leave on show days after awards. Exceptions to this are rare, but must be requested via email prior to show day. To be clear: We do not dismiss students after performance and before awards without notice and one of the following excuses: additional school activity off-site, religious obligations, family emergency.
There are several reasons for this, but the main reasons are:
- Post-show logistics are complex with packing, loading, and changing out of uniforms. We have to keep students with the group and dismissing students immediately after a show, in a parking lot, is unsafe.
- Watching other bands perform and understanding the scoring system, as outlined during awards, is part of marching band. Experiencing other groups' performances is how we improve our own and also how we support other bands. Students being present as scores are called during awards helps students understand the facts of where we are in our performance, what needs to improve, and where we can improve. This is a vital part of the marching band experience.
