Cienega Campus Spirit

We supported the Cienega Campus Spirit during a year of in-person and virtual learning. The Instrumental Music Program produced a high-quality recording of the Cienega HS Fight Song, currently featured on the school website

We wanted to play music. We did and we shared it for everyone to hear. The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Orchestra recorded music within their respective hybrid groups and eventually as a full ensemble, presenting the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Performance Series on YouTube and SoundCloud

Many of our students continued to grow their musical talents with local performing groupssuch as the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra and Vail Youth Symphony.

TPYO

Junior percussionist Zach Thomas earned the silver medal in TPYO’s annual scholarshipcompetition, performing a featured solo during the group’s November (2020) concertprogram

2021 Tournament of Roses Parade

3 students (Kaesey Borders, Kyle Newlin, and Kiaraly Soto) were selected to participate in the2021 Tournament of Roses Parade, performing with the Bands of America National HonorBand this coming December

Jazz Legacy Ensemble

Junior percussionist Dalen Durnan was selected to perform with the prestigious Nash LegacyJazz Ensemble out of Phoenix

ABODA All-State Jazz Honor Band

Junior trombonist Brennan Miller was selected to the ABODA All-State Jazz Honor Band,earning a spot as trombone 1 in the top group

AMEA’s Solo and Ensemble Festival

3 students (Kyle Newlin, Kiaraly Soto, and Grant Thomas) participated in AMEA’s Solo andEnsemble festival, with Grant earning a superior rating and “best in class” honors for his soloperformance.

Macy’s Great AmericanMarching Band

3 students (Kaesey Borders, Kyle Newlin, and Zach Thomas) were selected to participate in the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, performing with the Macy’s Great AmericanMarching Band this coming November.

Senior French hornist Makhai Gilbert and Junior trombonist Brennan Miller were selected to the AMEA All-State Honor Band

Cienega Copper Thunder Winterguard

The Cienega Copper Thunder Winterguard participated in their first competitive season in over 7 years, earning two excellent ratings

ABODA’s Virtual Festival

Concert band was awarded an Excellent rating, and our Symphonic Band and String Orchestra was awarded a superior rating for their submitted recordings in ABODA’s Virtual Festival this year.
